ESMINT Pilot Research Grant
ESMINT recognizes the need to stimulate investigator-initiated research programs in interventional neuroradiology. The ESMINT Pilot Research Grant Program provides a one-year funding source to help investigators generate preliminary data that will lead to additional funding from other national agencies or foundations. This call for proposals will consider all new or innovative projects with sound medical/scientific justification.
2024 Pilot Research Grant Recipients
The ESMINT Research & Publication Committee, chaired by Aymeric Rouchaud, evaluated numerous proposals to fund projects with significant scientific merit and potential impact. This year, two exceptional projects were awarded funding, addressing key challenges in neurointervention and stroke care.
Dr. Sophia Hohenstatt (Heidelberg, Germany) is exploring the Quantification of Microplastics and Nanoplastics in Blood and Thrombi of Stroke Patients. This innovative study, supervised by Markus Möhlenbruch, aims to assess the presence of microplastics and nanoplastics in stroke patients. It could provide valuable insights into how environmental pollutants might affect stroke incidence and severity.
Dr. Antonio Laiso (Firenze, Italy) is investigating The RADIONICS Study (Pre-hospital Transcranial Doppler Selection for Patients with Large Vessel Occlusion), aimed at enhancing early stroke detection using transcranial Doppler technology in pre-hospital settings. This project seeks to transform the identification and treatment of patients with large vessel occlusion (LVO), ultimately improving outcomes for this high-risk group.
