European Board of Neurointerventionists (EBNI)
The Executive Committee of ESMINT decided in December of 2016 to form a European Board of Neurointerventionists. The purpose of this Board is to provide a forum for recognition of competence necessary for specialist physicians involved in neurointerventions.
The Board will provide guidelines for training including examination and practice with the expressed goal of providing safe and best possible treatment and care for patients in need of interventional procedures in the brain, head or spine. The Board will also find a way to recognise competence and skills in the individual neurointerventionist. The Board will provide guidelines for institutions training future neurointerventionists and to accredit such institutions.
The Board will among its members include specialists, from various backgrounds within neurosciences, who are respected neurointerventionists but also other specialists who have gained expertise and proficiency in this area.
I am very proud of having been selected to lead this pioneering work in assembling experts from different specialties to achieve these important goals. I am not a neurointerventionist myself but I will rely on experience from previous involvement in similar tasks within UEMS.
