07 Jun 2023   Category/ies: Society

With sadness and great gratitude, the ESMINT says goodbye to Prof. Anton Valavanis, 20. Januar 1952 – 30. Mai 2023.

Prof. Anton Valavanis

After completing his studies in human medicine at the University of Zurich in 1977, Anton Valavanis focused on neuroradiology, at that time still an imaging sub-specialty of radiology. He was instrumental in the development of neuroradiology into an independent discipline worldwide and, as an internationally recognized pioneer of interventional neuroradiology, provided decisive impetus for progress in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cerebrovascular and neurological diseases.

Anton Valavanis ideally represented his field as a sensitive physician, an inspiring teacher and an innovative researcher. His services to neuroradiology have been widely recognized and honored nationally and internationally in numerous awards. He dedicated his entire life to clinical neuroscience and continued to work in this field with the same enthusiasm and fascination despite his severe illness.

The clinical neurosciences lose an outstanding, internationally extremely well-known and visionary personality. ESMINT will keep Anton Valavanis and his work as a physician, researcher, teacher in grateful memory.
